2019 Volunteer Training Events

While some of ISEA volunteer positions do not require training, we do train volunteers who wish to be an instructor for school programs or crew on the schooner Inland Seas or UtopiaPlease complete the 2019 Volunteer Training Signup form if you are interested in participating in one of the following trainings.

At NMC’s Freshwater Studies Building, Room 112, 715 E Front St, Traverse City, from 5:30 pm – 7:30 pm – Sign up for one or more.

April 3: Overview + Weather + Secchi + Teaching Techniques
April 10: Benthos + Seamanship
April 17: Water Quality + Fish
April 24: Plankton + Microplastics

Schoolship Instructor All-Day Training

At the Capt. Thomas M. Kelly Biological Station from 9:00 am – 5:00 pm – All-day trainings cover all topics above.

April 26: Returning Instructor All-Day Training
April 27: New Instructor All-Day Training

Lead (instructor) Training

May 1: 5:30 pm – 7:30 pm, Capt. Thomas M. Kelly Biological Station

ROV Training

May 1: 5:30 pm – 7:30 pm, Capt. Thomas M. Kelly Biological Station

Crew Evening Training

At the Capt. Thomas M. Kelly Biological Station from 5:30 pm – 8:00 pm

March 21: Ship Safety
March 28: Maintenance
April 4: Engineering
April 11: Line Handling + Knots
