Together, we have accomplished so much in our 30-year history. From a small, shared office space to a campus and two ships, the growth our supporters have made possible has impacted over 125,000 individuals.
For 30 years, ISEA has proven to be good stewards with the resources given to us.
- Twenty-five years ago, ISEA donors raised $750,000 to build the schooner Inland Seas and pay for its initial operating expenses. What an amazing asset this has been! On this vessel, thousands of youth and adults have learned about the health of the Great Lakes and how to care for them. Thanks to the continued support of our donors, Captain Ben, and our dedicated volunteers, the ship is in excellent shape and ready for the next 30 years of inspiring Great Lakes stewards.
- In 2002, donors helped ISEA purchase the old Northern Lumber site in Suttons Bay. Individuals have been learning about the Great Lakes through the Education Center, boat building programs, and wetland demonstration projects because of this property.
- Thanks to consistent support from ISEA donors and volunteers, we have inspired an average of 4,167 participants per year over our 30-year history. We are on track to reach more than 8,000 participants in 2019, demonstrating the potential to increase our impact.
- Just this year, we completed a $1.5 million renovation project of the Capt. Thomas M. Kelly Biological Station campus! Once again, ISEA supporters were extremely generous. ISEA completed the project debt-free and solar and maintenance-free building materials will aid in keeping our costs down.
Just think what we will be able to do with the Capt. Thomas M. Kelly Biological Station and campus, the schooner Inland Seas, and the schooner Utopia!
Now is the time to support students who will use these assets! Help us reach our Fall Programming goal of $50,000. Donors provide one-third of program costs and as the demand for ISEA programs continues to increase, so does the support needed.

Students participating in the above ISEA programs need your financial support. For just $100, you can give two students a full-day experience (Schoolship program and an ROV Engineer and Explore or Beyond Schoolship program) and an overnight stay in the dorms. Not only does your donation help a student, it also makes programs affordable for schools to provide engaging STEM-filled experiences.
