ISEA’s Floating Classrooms

School on a ship? You bet! For over 25 years, Inland Seas Education Association (ISEA) has been educating youth and adults about Great Lakes issues and stewardship.

Patrick Sullivan from Northern Express magazine talked with Fred Sitkins, ISEA Executive Director; Tom Kelly, founder of ISEA; Adam Burks, Program Director for Red8Boatworks; and Emily Tyner, past ISEA participant/intern and current doctoral student, to learn how ISEA is influencing young people to protect the Great Lakes. Inland Seas teaches in a very hands-on authentic way. Students literally become scientists for the day as they collect and analyze samples, look at trend data, and discuss how to protect this resource.
