ISEA Receives $75,000 DTE Energy Foundation Grant

Inland Seas Education Association (ISEA) received a grant from the DTE Energy Foundation of $25,000 a year for three years to support their Schoolship programs. Beginning in Spring 2016, the grant will be used for matching scholarships for at least 30 schools/classes in Michigan each year, impacting thousands of children.

“We are so appreciative of the DTE Energy Foundation for renewing their long-term support of our Schoolship programs.” said Fred Sitkins, Executive Director. “Over the next three years, thousands of students will have the opportunity to develop curiosity, stewardship, and a passion for the Great Lakes because of this generous donation.”

ISEA Schoolship programs provide students the opportunity to become scientists for the day through hands-on activities aboard the 77′ schooner Inland Seas or 114′ schooner Manitou. The unique experiences learning about Great Lakes ecology often translate into an increased awareness of the Great Lakes and promotes stewardship of them. Three types of Schoolship programs are available to schools: Traditional, Next Gen, and Diving Deeper.
