2022 – 2023 ISEA Cafe’s

ISEA Cafes are a way for us to connect in the non-sailing season and continue our mission of ongoing learning about the Great Lakes. Below are the ISEA Cafes offered during our 2022-23 season. 


November Cafe – Nov. 18th, 2-4pm

The November Cafe will be a screening of the documentary The Ottaway, A River Reborn as well as a discussion of the film. This Emmy-winning documentary chronicles the restoration and rebirth of the Boardman River in Traverse City. The event will be from 2-4 pm on Friday, Nov. 18th.

December Cafe – Dec. 8th, 1-3pm

We are hosting a knot-tying workshop for December Cafe. Bob Walton will lead a line handling workshop that includes whipping, splicing, and knot tying. This cafe is capped at 15 people.

January Cafe – Jan. 12th, 1-3pm

The January Cafe will be a virtual event hosted by Allison Hinson. Allison will be discussing her work to suppress quagga mussels in Lake Leelanau while also devising treatments that will least affect the benthic habitat.

February Cafe – Feb. 9th, 1-3pm

During this gathering we will focus on the story told during our Schoolship program, how that relates to the Great Lakes watershed and how we can all become stewards. This cafe will empower you to share the story of the Great Lakes Food Web outside of our shipboard programs.
