Get Onboard with ISEA

Did You Know-page-001

  • 20% of the world’s supply of surface fresh water is in the Great Lakes. ISEA plays an important role in protecting this critical resource.
  • STEM (science, technology, engineering, math) jobs are expected to grow faster than all other occupations from 2012-2022. ISEA inspires students to pursue careers in the STEM fields.
  • 50% of the world’s population will live in high water stress by 2030. Solutions to big problems always begin with education.
  • The Great Lakes region boasts the world’s 4th largest economy, with a combined GDP of $4.7 trillion. ISEA’s work has tremendous economic significance.
  • Outflows from the Great Lakes are relatively small so pollutants that enter the Great Lakes are retained and become more concentrated with time. ISEA monitors the health of the Great Lakes through the research completed during our programs. Participants are part of this research process.

Inspiring Great Lakes curiosity, stewardship, and passion is the mission of Inland Seas Education Association (ISEA). We teach youth and adults through hands-on experiential activities aboard our tall ship schooners, in our education center and boat shop, and through our wetlands to lead them toward becoming Great Lakes stewards and scientists.

At ISEA, we are passionate. Passionate about protecting the Great Lakes. Protecting the Great Lakes takes stewards that know the Great Lakes, understand the threats to them, enjoy using them, benefit economically through them, and spread the word about them. Being curious about the Great Lakes is the first step toward stewardship and passion. Our goal at ISEA is to impact an increasing number of individuals with this important task of stewardship of this great resource. In order to do that, we need your help. We are looking for individuals to ‘get onboard’ with ISEA by spreading the message about us and our mission, volunteering onboard and shoreside, and donating to support our programs.

Please browse our website to learn more about our programs as well as how you can make a difference by volunteering or donating.
