eXXpedition Great Lakes Logo (Transparent Background)Inland Seas Education Association is participating in the world’s largest simultaneous microplastics sampling on Saturday, August 20, 2016 in Lake Michigan, around Charlevoix. Inland Seas and the Lake Charlevoix Association have partnered to host the sampling sail from 10 am – 2:30 pm. eXXpedition Great Lakes 2016 is the coordinating organization for the project.

eXXpedition is a series of all women voyages to make the unseen seen, from the toxics in our bodies to the toxics in our seas. While the eXXpeditions are let by women, everyone is encouraged to participate in the August 20th project. Jeanie Williams, Inland Seas Education Association’s lead scientist and educator, will be leading the program aboard Inland Seas.

During an eXXpedition voyage, environmental samples are collected to assess plastic and pollutants. Water samples taken from Lake Charlevoix will be sent to Adventurers & Scientists for Conservation Global Microplastic Project led by Dr. Abby Barrows at the Marine & Environmental Research Institute in Maine.
