Endowment Funds

Since 2002. the Inland Seas Education Association has maintained two distinct endowment funds, which are held and invested by the Grand Traverse Regional Community Foundation:
  • Scholarship Endowment Fund - to provide spendable income to support educational programs aboard the schooner Inland Seas and other vessels under charter to ISEA

  • Schoolship Operating Endowment Fund - to create spendable income that is used to pay the tuition for schools who are otherwise unable to participate in the Schoolship experience.
The Lee Endowment for Global Freshwater (LEGF) was created as an operating unit within the Inland Seas Education Association in 2002 and is administered under the terms of the LEGF Fund Agreement. The mission of the LEGF is to support and encourage the development of solutions to the world's freshwater needs through economical and practical methods and to make real progress toward solving the problem of freshwater scarcity in the world. The endowment is invested by the ISEA Finance Committee according to ISEA investment policies. The annual interest is used to award The Lee Prize for Global Freshwater, which recognizes individuals and groups who have done outstanding work in bringing freshwater to those in need. It also provides grants for The Lee Project for Global Freshwater to support technology and methods which foster this mission. For more info, click here.
